Who We Are
Welcome! We are delighted to have you as a visitor. The story of Hersco began in New York City in the late 1930’s. Irwin Herskovitz, a Hungarian immigrant, started making metal and leather arch supports along with cork, foam and felt pads and wedges. Cathal and Seamus Kennedy took over as owner operators in 1995.
Today, we manufacture custom lower extremity devices for thousands of practitioners here in the U.S. and in many other countries around the world. Clinicians either ship physical casts or upload 3d digital images of a patient’s foot, ankle, knee or complete lower leg depending on what is required. We use these casts to make custom precision orthopedic devices carefully following detailed prescriptions provided by Doctors, Orthotists, Prosthetists and Pedorthists.
What We Do
All of our devices are delivered to patients through qualified practitioners. The proper use of our devices help patients walk better, reduce or eliminate pain, assist in physical rehab and ensure that they remain active and healthy. There are many specific areas where orthotics are used such as sports medicine, wound healing, diabetes, post-op, physical rehab, and pediatric care.
Our extensive product portfolio includes Custom Foot Orthotics, Richie Braces, all types of AFOs, Custom Shoes and Prosthetics. We are fully focused on the process of continuous improvement, integrating 3d scanning systems, CAD-CAM technologies, Lean Manufacturing principles and 3d printing into our operation.

Our Team
Located in New York City, Hersco reflects the great American melting pot. Our current team includes 10 different nationalities and we have native speakers of 6 separate languages.
Seamus Kennedy
Seamus is a well-known Certified Pedorthist and the pedorthic contributor to The O & P Edge. He stays keenly focused on educating the marketplace and enjoys writing the quarterly “Stepping Out” article. There is now enough material to print a book! He frequently gives talks on pedorthics and biomechanics to practitioners and doctors and has presented at many international conferences, academy meetings and colleges.
He has organized the Pedorthic program for the national AAOP meetings since 2011. He became an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists in 2022.
Cathal Kennedy
Cathal studied Finance as an undergrad and worked on Wall Street for several years before taking the reins at Hersco. He went on to obtain an MBA from Baruch College in New York City. He is dedicated to the daily operation of Hersco overseeing all aspects of the business and finance.
